        Fly Me To The Moon!

        Author: Lorna Ockwell

The Year 1 pupils at Bourne Elsea Park zoomed into their new learning about space with a visit from StarLincs and their amazing planetarium. The school hall was taken over by a large, inflatable dome. We all carefully crawled in to see what we could discover.

We learnt all about why and how we have night-time before being taken on a journey in to space. We found out about all the things in the sky above us: the international space station, the moon and all the amazing planets.

Evie said it was really exciting finding out all about the different stars and Max loved sharing his amazing facts about the planets with us.

Finally, we were plunged into darkness so we could explore what the night sky would look like that evening. We learnt the big names and interesting stories behind some of the famous constellations. Lastly, we saw how the night sky changes over the evening.

Mrs Bradley, a Year 1 teacher, said it was amazing listening to the children’s prior knowledge and see their fascination with space grow right before our eyes. It has been wonderful coming back into the classroom and carrying on our learning about this fascinating place and the people who have explored it.
