Over the past 3 weeks, the Year 5 children have been taking part in Level 1 and 2 Bikeability training with the company Outspoken. Outspoken’s training ‘aims to inspire people to cycle by equipping them with the confidence and skill to ride more often’, and from speaking to the children, it is clear this objective has been achieved!
During the Level 1 training, the children completed off-road cycle training through playground games, aimed to develop the children’s control and bike handling skills. Once Level 1 was achieved, the children moved onto Level 2, which took place beyond the school boundaries, on residential roads. This learning enabled the children to ride confidently around their local area on real roads. The children learnt a variety of skills including; how to pass side roads, how to make U-turns, how and when to signal and how to pass parked or slow moving vehicles.
Mr Revell, Assistant Head said, ‘The children have had a fantastic time learning how to ride safely on the roads in and around our school area and we know these lessons have equipped them with the skills they need to ride their bikes confidently.’
