        WOW Walk on Wednesdays

        Author: hue

Throughout March, children, staff and parents/carers  have been taking part in WOW. WOW (Walk on Wednesdays) is a walk to school campaign with Living Streets (the national walking charity). Our Eco Warriors earlier this term decided to take part in the campaign as part of their new Eco Schools topic, Transport.

The Eco Warriors in each class helped their teacher to track the journeys made by their peers to school each day. Children were asked to walk, scoot, skate or cycle to school throughout the month. On Wednesdays throughout the month, Miss Worrall, Mrs Simpson and Mrs Wilcockson met children with their parents/carers at Tesco (our park and stride site) and joined them on their journey to school. Each child who made an active journey to school at least once a week throughout the month received a WOW badge made from recycled plastic.

Miss Worrall (Eco Schools Coordinator) explained ‘We have thoroughly enjoyed taking part in WOW with Living Streets this month. It was fantastic to see so many children and parents/carers involved in increasing their sustainable travel to and from school. We have seen an increase in the number of children making active journeys to and from school and cannot wait to increase this number further. Thank you to all the parents/carers for their support in our latest Eco School initiative.’
