Year 5’s Virtual Author Experience with Hannah Gold

Year 5 had an amazing opportunity to take part in a virtual session with Stamford-based author, Hannah Gold. The experience was full of exciting moments as we learned about her writing journey and the inspirations behind her stories.

Hannah told us about her incredible travels to Costa Rica, where she spent time with monkeys and explored volcanoes—adventures that helped shape her books. She also shared how her pet tortoise played a big role in inspiring her creative ideas! It was fascinating to hear about the real-life experiences that influence her writing.

We also learned about Hannah’s journey to becoming an author. She talked about the challenges and joys of writing, and even gave us a sneak peek into the exciting news that one of her books might be turned into a movie! The possibility of seeing her characters on the big screen was a highlight for everyone.

To make the session even more special, we heard from the illustrator, Levi, who showed us how he brings the characters and scenes in Hannah’s books to life through his illustrations. Watching him create art in real time was a truly inspiring experience.

The session ended with a fun quiz, where we tested our knowledge of everything we learned. We also heard from Clare Atkinson who has spent time rescuing sea turtles.

We were also fortunate to hear from Clare Atkinson, who shared her inspiring experiences of rescuing leatherback sea turtles. Her passion for wildlife conservation was both eye-opening and inspiring, especially when we heard about her meetings with David Attenborough.

The session wrapped up with a fun quiz where we tested our knowledge of everything we had learned. Many of the children were so inspired that they expressed an interest in reading more of Hannah’s books—a fantastic outcome!
