This past month, as part of their PE lessons, children across our school had the unique opportunity to step outside their comfort zones and experience wheelchair basketball! This event focused on inclusion, teamwork, and learning new skills, giving every child the chance to try out a sport that may have been entirely new to them.
Their PE sessions began with a quick introduction to the wheelchairs, where children learned essential skills like moving, turning, stopping, and pushing themselves forward. While it was challenging for many at first, the excitement in the air was undeniable!
After getting the hang of wheelchair movement, the children moved on to a series of drills designed to develop their basketball skills. From dribbling to passing and shooting, each skill was adapted to the unique aspects of wheelchair basketball. The children quickly embraced the sport, and their focus and enthusiasm were evident as they learned how to handle the ball and work together as a team.
