Well Hello Yellow!
On Friday 14th October 2022, you would have been dazzled with the sunny welcome as you entered the classrooms of Bourne Elsea Park C of E Primary Academy as the children were all wearing a splash of sunshine yellow with their school uniforms. The usual sea of red jumpers was no longer to be seen but instead, a wave of yellow had taken over. Yellow jumpers, yellow t-shirts, yellow hairbands, hats and even socks were everywhere! Why do you ask? It was all in aid of #Hello Yellow Day and the Young Minds charity, key supporters of young people suffering with their Mental Health. Combined with our knowledge of UNICEF Article 12, ‘Every Child has the right to have their voice heard’, this focus on Mental Health is a key part of the way our children are using their voices to help themselves and children around the world battle against feelings of sadness, loneliness, and frustration, much of which has been brought on by the confusion of an ever changing world. During #Hello Day the children took part in an inspiring Young Minds Collective Worship helping them to understand more about how our characteristic traits such as MOTIVATION can help us to overcome difficult feelings and emotions. Our Mindfullers shared some helpful hints about being motivated, such as using a positive mind set, taking action, using positive affirmations and encouraging ourselves and our friends. Importantly, the children also made links to their Christian Values such as Hope, Perseverance, Friendship and Courage to help keep them motivated. Our usual Golden Reward Afternoon was also taken over and became Yellow Afternoon with help from our Character Education Superhero, who helped the children write motivational phrases on their Superhero masks and bunting. One of our Mindfullers said, “I enjoyed helping my friends to feel more motivated and happy today”. What a stunning display of our Christian values of Hope, Friendship and our British Value of Mutual Respect! As a UNICEF Rights Respecting School, our children certainly know how to help themselves and their friends to have Article 6 ‘Right to a Healthy Life and Development’ along with Article 29 ‘Right to be the best they can be’ and are showing the world how to be Agents of Change in the lives of others. The future is sunny and yellow for our children!
