Our Eco Warriors Are Agents of Change!

        Author: Lorna Ockwell

On Friday 25th March, the Eco Warriors took part in tree planting and litter picking. They were invited by Mr Giddings, who works for the Elsea Park Community Trust, to join him at the environmental area near Setts Green. The children were very excited to learn about the different types of trees Mr Giddings had already planted, including; oak, hawthorn, birch, hazel and rowan. It was a special moment for each child when they had the opportunity to plant their own tree with bamboo support and a casing. Mr Giddings explained how he had already planted over 105 trees and these were the final few to be planted as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy for her Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

During the afternoon, the children also spent some time exploring the environmental area and they were lucky enough to discover a badger set. They were also eager to be Agents of Change by taking part in a litter pick on their journey there and back; they successfully collected two full bags of litter.

We are very thankful to the Elsea Park Community Trust and Mr Giddings for inviting the Eco Warriors to help him with the tree planting. It was a fantastic opportunity for the children to learn about the wildlife around them and the importance of planting trees. Taking part in the litter pick was a brilliant way for the children to make a difference to our local community and we look forward to more litter picks with the Eco Warriors as part of our continued

        Eco Schools work.
