This week, our Year 5 pupils had the privilege of participating in a First Aid training session led by Miss Cheek from Inspire+. The session was engaging, informative, and incredibly beneficial, leaving a lasting impact on both the children and staff.
Miss Cheek began the session by introducing the importance of First Aid and its role in everyday life. The children learned how to identify different types of emergencies and, crucially, who to call for help in each scenario. Whether it’s dialing 999 in the UK for urgent medical, fire, or police assistance or reaching out to a trusted adult, the children now feel more confident in responding appropriately.
Next the children learnt how to perform basic First Aid care. Miss Cheek demonstrated how to assess a situation safely, protect themselves and others, and administer basic care to someone in need. The children especially enjoyed practicing how to put on a sling, taking turns to perfect their technique.
Another key part of the session was an introduction to Autoinjectors—what they are, when they’re used, and how to administer one safely. Understanding how to respond to severe allergic reactions could one day help save a life, and the children were engaged and eager to learn this critical skill.
The session concluded with a
hands-on experience: learning CPR. Each child had the opportunity to practice chest compressions and rescue breaths on dummies, following the instructions provided by Miss Cheek. By the end of the session, the children demonstrated a clear understanding of how to perform CPR effectively.
Year 5 pupils walked away with newfound knowledge and skills that could one day make a real difference in an emergency. We’re incredibly grateful to Miss Cheek and Inspire Plus for providing such a valuable and memorable experience.
