        Year 5 Visit Nene Park

        Author: Lorna Ockwell

As part of our rivers topic and to develop our fieldwork understanding and skills, Year 5’s visited Nene Outdoors at Nene Park to embark on a ‘Living Rivers’ environmental activity day. The educational visit entailed studying a section of the River Nene using specialised equipment, map skills and sampling techniques. We initially used our map skills to follow a route along the river, locating key points of interest and exploring the processes influencing the river’s environment. We were then able to investigate and measure the width, depth and speed of flow of river and sample the invertebrates found in the fresh water. It was a thoroughly informative and enjoyable day, enhancing our fieldwork knowledge and practical skills.
